Directions to the Park
Take US Highway 53 to business Highway 53, approx. 40 minutes south of Duluth/Superior. Our entrance is directly across from the Dairy Queen in the heart of Solon Springs. You can park in downtown Solon Springs and easily walk along the path to the concerts.

Bring Your Own Seating

Bring your lawn chairs or blankets to the concerts. All seating is on the lawn. Chairs can be provided for those in need on a first come basis.

Food

Picnic baskets are welcome provided they do not include glass, however we encourage you to support The Solon Springs Lions Club. They operate the concession stand. The menu includes brats, hot dogs, and snacks including freshly made popcorn, ice cream treats, beer, wine, soft drinks and bottled water. The concession stand sells beverages in plastic or cans in keeping with park policy. A great fundraising opportunity for the Lions to help our community.

Restrictions

The following activities are not allowed inside the fenced area:

  • No Smoking

  • No Pets

  • No Glass containers of any type

Buying Tickets

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. You can purchase virtual tickets online or buy physical tickets in one of our ticket outlets. Tickets ordered the week of the show will be held at the Will Call table the night of the show. Tickets are generally available in May each year. Be sure to get on our email list to receive announcements about our shows and opportunities to buy tickets.

Parking

Parking spots are limited inside of the park. If you have difficulty walking, please arrive early to get a spot inside the park closer to the amphitheater.

There are various places to park around the perimeter of the park, with a beautiful short walk through the park trails to get to the venue. 

Lucius Woods Park Information

Lucius Woods Performing Arts Center and Lucius Woods Park are separate entities. Lucius Woods Performing Arts Center, a presenter of the programming Music in the Park, is a non-profit organization. Lucius Woods Park and the concert shell is owned and maintained by the Douglas County Forestry Department. To book an event or request information regarding the Park or campground call Forestry at (715) 378-2219.

Lucius Woods Park is located in a beautiful 40-acre sanctuary named in honor of Nicholas and Emma Lucius who preserved the land and the environment during the early 1900s. The park is located in the Village of Solon Springs, Wisconsin on the shores of the Upper St. Croix Lake. It offers a beautiful swimming beach, playgrounds, nature trails, camping facilities, picnic areas with grills, and the Giesen Concert Shell. Staff

Lucius Woods Performing Arts Center has one staff position, the Executive Director.

James Shafstall

Executive Director

James Shafstall started as Executive Director for LWPAC in October of 2025. He grew up in Solon Springs, and spent much of his childhood walking the trails of Lucius Woods Park. After moving away from Solon at the age of 12, his education and career took him to other landscapes, where he studied Music, Recording Technology, Creative Writing, and Mass Communication at undergraduate and graduate levels. He worked in Marketing for fifteen years for manufacturing companies, a software company in Milwaukee, and most recently, Big Top Chautauqua in Bayfield, WI.


In addition to being the Executive Director for LWPAC, James currently operates his own music teaching and recording studio called Lakewinds Music in Washburn, WI. He also works as a professional performing musician with several groups, leading his own shows as a solo performer and band leader, and using his accomplished guitar skills in support of various other well-known area artists as a member of Molly Otis’s Danger Band, the Blue Canvas Orchestra (Big Top Chautauqua), Nick Kuka & the Rocky Mountain Regulators, among others.
